Falling on 16 October, World Food Day aims to raise awareness that we need to build a world where everyone, everywhere has regular access to enough nutritious food.
The theme of this year’s World Food Day is Leave NO ONE behind. World Food Day highlights that although we have made progress towards building a better world, too many people have been left behind. Millions of people around the world cannot afford a healthy diet, putting them at risk of food security and malnutrition. We need to build a sustainable world where everyone, everywhere has regular access to enough nutritious food.
Locally, the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the increasing cost of living have caused an increase in the number of people accessing food relief, many of who are accessing it for the first time in their lives.
Each year, the Give Where You Live Foundation marks World Food Day with the annual Feed Geelong Appeal to bring awareness to the local need for food security and raise funds to help make sure nobody in our community goes hungry.
